The Histories 9/26

I learned some interesting things about the Persians after reading this article..The Persians had no images of gods or temples, and they thought of those things as being foolish. They practiced sacrificing things to Zeus, who they viewed as the chief God of the universe. They described the offering or sacrificing that the Persian people did. The sacrificers were not allowed to pray for blessings on himself alone, but for the King and the people. Then, they talked about how they cut the meat and how the sacifice was done. It was weird to me. The day they celebrated the most was their birthday. It said that they have more food than usual, which sounds just about right. The richer Persians, of course, had more variety like camel, ox, a horse, etc... The poor cooked smaller cattle. The Persians also loved wine... who doesn't? The Persians would kiss each other on the lips if they were I guess cool with each other, but if they just had an ok relationship they would kiss on the cheek. They believed that in order to show off their manliness they would have to fight in war, have a lot of sons.

Next, the Egyptians. They had/have the most number of buildings and monuments. The women participate in markets and trade, which I think is awesome because it shows that women were able to do what men did, and the men surprisingly stayed at home... weird. The women would carry things on their shoulders, and the men would carry things on top of their heads. I learned that men could be a priest, but the women could not serve as a priest, god, or goddess. I wonder what they meant as serve as a goddess? Like, be someone highly? What I found interesting was that daughters were obligated to help the family with things, while sons had a choise whether to stick around and support their parents. In Egypt, the priests shave their heads, and let their facial hair grow if someone in their family dies. Something I liked reading was that Egyptians always had animals with them. I love animals.  They are very religious, practice circumcision for cleaniless purposes, and wear clean white linen everyday, to show how clean they were.

Both were interesting to read about. I felt like it was more descriptive, even just knowing the little things matter to me. I like knowing details, and how their views and culture or even daily life was like.
